Go see the 17 Mile Drive. A great tour to do with your car. Have a drink at the Pebble Beach Resort and enjoy the view.
If you need to do some shopping for your GF, visit Gilroy Outlet Shopping.
Enjoy your time there!

If you'd like a breath taking view of the majority of the SF / Oakland / North Bay Area take a 20 minute drive from SF to "Fish Ranch Road". I'd definitely recommend taking a look, especially on a Monday - Thursday night when there are less locals.
This is a very "local" spot that you wont find in the tour books, but is well worth it.
Have fun in the bay area!

Just a hint... take the first right immediately after the tunnel and then a right at the 4-way stop, everything else is easy.

While Santa Clara doesn't have too much to offer, there are plenty of good restaurants in Palo Alto, just north of Santa Clara, though these are not necessarily cheap. San Jose also has some good places. You could check on ChowHound.com depending on what you're looking for. If you have an extra day, consider driving down to Santa Cruz or even further to Carmel or Monterey. The coastal highway 1 is a great drive and very scenic. There are also some decent live music rock / blues / jazz venues in Redwood City, San Jose, Campbell, and of course, San Francisco.
